Explore the Antique Markets of Tuscany, Italy

History and charm come together in the many antique markets of Tuscany, Italy!

When I visit Tuscany, I adore touring the quaint towns and lively cities on market days. Tables, full of vintage delights, from ornate furniture and elegant designer furs to nostalgic typewriters and exquisite jewelry, just wait to be explored throughout this picturesque region's piazzas and streets. Markets can transform weekends into lively gatherings where locals and visitors alike engage in the joyous hunt for unexpected discoveries.

For me, it’s more than just a shopping experience. It’s where I become inspired for my design work! That’s why I’m so excited to take you on this journey to the antique markets set amidst Tuscany's rolling hills and charming medieval villages, where many of the best destinations to find one-of-a-kind antiques await. From relaxing fairs to captivating antique markets, an adventure awaits those willing to venture off the beaten path.

Antiquing Through Tuscany

The scenic landscapes, charming towns, and rich history make antiques in this beautiful region even more special. Let's take a leisurely stroll through some of my favorite antique destinations

Cortonantiquaria

Italy's oldest and most beloved antique fair, Cortonantiquaria, takes place in beautiful Cortona from late August to early September. And it's one of the biggest in Tuscany! Around 50 exhibitors from all over the country showcase their treasures at the lovely Palazzo Bagnotti. Plus, there are special exhibits that explore interior design through the ages.

Lucca Antiques Market

Stroll through one of the most well-known and anticipated antique fairs in all of Tuscany on the third Sunday of each month for the delightful Antiquariato di Lucca! While it may be smaller than the market in Arezzo, it’s just as charming and full of fascinating finds. As Italy's second oldest antiques fair, Lucca welcomes around 220 exhibitors to showcase their wares.

Pistoia Antiques Market

Every second Sunday of the month from April to October, around 50 antique dealers set up shop in the charming historic center along lovely streets like Via Cavour, Via Cino, and Via Bozzi. It’s been a beloved event since 1980! When winter comes, the market moves indoors to the cozy "La Cattedrale" exhibition space at Via Sandro Pertini.

Montepulciano Antiques Fair

Every second Sunday of the month, along with the Saturday before, you can explore this charming fair held in the picturesque Piazza Grande, right in the heart of the historic center. It's the perfect spot to discover unique antiques, second-hand clothing, beautiful handcrafted items, and lovely prints. It’s perfect for a day of strolling, shopping, and soaking in the vibrant atmosphere!

Forte dei Marmi Market, Forte dei Marmi

If you’re lucky enough to be in this charming town situated between the rising mountains and the stunning Tuscan Versilia coast on a Saturday, don’t miss the Forte dei Marmi market with its 60 stands. I especially love popping into Recuperando, where I can find exquisite recovered marble sinks and a breathtaking selection of hand-painted tiles (just remember, they close on Sundays!).

Piazza del Mercato, Siena

You're in for a treat in Siena on the third Sunday of the month! With 90 stands overflowing with a variety of fascinating items, this market feels like a journey through time. From vintage books to eclectic albums, there’s a little bit of everything to pique your curiosity.

La Piazza Stefano de Maria, Grosseto

Grosseto welcomes visitors to its cozy market, which features 60 stands on the fourth Sunday of the month. It’s compact but packed with charm! After browsing the antiques, consider taking a moment to explore the gorgeous nearby beaches or wander through the Natural Park of Maremma; both provide a perfect excuse to soak in more of Tuscany's stunning landscapes.

Piazza delle Erbe, San Gimignano

Also, on the fourth Sunday of the month, this enchanting town hosts a delightful antique market right in the central piazza. With 50 stands, it’s a quaint yet captivating spot to find unique pieces while enjoying a leisurely stroll in one of Tuscany's most picturesque settings.
